How to Choose
BOBCAT IMPLEMENTS
Choosing the right implement starts with the job you need to do and the conditions you work in. Grading a gravel drive, mowing a pasture, prepping seedbeds or clearing snow all demand different working widths, duty ratings and power requirements. When you match the implement to the task, your tractor stays efficient, stable and productive.
Next, confirm compatibility with your tractor’s setup. Many implements connect through the 3-point hitch, while others also require PTO power to run moving components. Your tractor’s hitch category, lift capacity and PTO horsepower help determine what you can run safely and effectively.
Working width matters, too. A wider implement can cover more ground per pass, but it also adds weight and can increase power demand – especially in thick grass, heavy snow or tough soil. For tighter spaces, gates and landscaped areas, a narrower width may deliver better control and fewer do-overs.
QUICK CHECKLIST
- Task: mowing, grading, driveway maintenance, soil prep, cleanup or snow removal
- 3-point hitch category: Category 1 vs Category 2
- Implement power needs: 3-point only vs 3-point + PTO-driven
- Tractor match: lift capacity and PTO horsepower (if PTO-driven)
- Working width: property size, access points, obstacles and desired coverage per pass
- Conditions: packed gravel, wet soil, rocky ground, slopes or heavy vegetation
- Duty rating: occasional property use vs. frequent, heavy workload
- Setup needs: driveline/shields (PTO), ballast, adjustments and any quick-hitch considerations
If you want the simplest path, pick the job first – then verify fit and requirements for your specific tractor with your local Bobcat dealer.
Frequently Asked Questions
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
What is an implement?
An implement is a work tool designed to connect to a tractor to handle specific tasks like grading, mowing, tilling, leveling, digging or material movement. Many implements connect through a 3-point hitch, and some use the PTO (power take-off) to drive moving parts. Some implements can also connect using the drawbar on certain tractors. With the right implement, a Bobcat tractor can shift from one job to the next without adding another machine.
What is the difference between PTO and 3-point?
To attach or remove a PTO or 3-point implement, first always follow your tractor and implement operator’s manuals. In general:
Before you connect
- Park on level ground, lower the hitch, set the parking brake and shut the machine down.
- Make sure the PTO is off and all moving parts have stopped.
Attach a 3-point implement
- Back up and align the tractor with the implement.
- Connect the lower lift arms to the implement pins and secure them with locking pins/clips.
- Connect the top link and secure it.
- Adjust stabilizers/sway control so the implement tracks straight and doesn’t swing.
If it is PTO-driven
- Confirm the correct PTO speed requirement (commonly 540 rpm) and driveline length.
- Slide the driveline onto the PTO shaft until it locks. Tug to confirm it’s secured.
- Keep PTO shields in place and check clearance through the full lift range.
Test
- Start up, raise the implement slightly, then run at low speed to confirm smooth operation.
- Stop immediately if you hear knocking, see vibration or notice hydraulic leaks.
Remove
- Lower the implement to the ground, shut down, turn the PTO off and relieve pressure.
- Disconnect the PTO driveline (if applicable), then the top link, then lower arms.
Safety non-negotiables: Keep bystanders back, never step over a rotating driveline and never work around a PTO with guards removed. For compatibility and the right setup for your tractor, confirm implement fit and requirements with your local Bobcat dealer.
How do I choose the correct implement?
To choose the correct implement, start with the job, then match the implement to your tractor and conditions.
- Application: mowing, grading, driveway maintenance, soil prep, cleanup
- Tractor compatibility: 3-point hitch category, lift capacity, PTO horsepower (if PTO-driven)
- Working width: match to your tractor size and the space you’ll work in
- Ground and terrain: rocky soil, slopes, soft ground, packed gravel
- Frequency and intensity: occasional property work vs. weekly heavy-duty use
If you want the simplest path, choose the task first, then select an implement built for it – and confirm compatibility for your specific tractor with your local Bobcat dealer.
What is the price or cost of implements?
Implement pricing varies based on the implement type, size/width, duty rating, options and local availability. For accurate pricing, contact your local Bobcat dealer for a quote on the implement and any needed hardware (PTO driveline, quick-hitch compatibility, ballast or additional setup).
