PA1600VP (Cummins® Engine)
Precision Rotors
The rotors used in Bobcat proprietary airends feature a versatile gearbox design with case carburized gears, providing a wide gear ratio range. Premium bearings also add greater durability and improve operational efficiency.
FlexAir System
Bobcat compressors, featuring the variable FlexAir System, let you maintain complete control of both air pressure and airflow. From the control panel, you can dial in the exact combination of pressure and flow within the compressor’s operational range.
Dual Pressure Capability
Dual pressure compressors offer two-in-one versatility with clear HI/LOW options on the control panel. Operators can select between two adjustable airflow and air pressure combinations to power multiple applications, eliminating the need for multiple compressors.
Proprietary Airends
With tighter rotor tolerances comes better performance. Bobcat proprietary airends are engineered to deliver exceptional performance, low vibration and reduced noise, and they’re manufactured at our state-of-the-art facility in Statesville, North Carolina.
The Power You Need Where You Need It
Bobcat portable air compressors are equipped with dual or variable pressure and flow options to dial in the right output for multiple applications – all with a single unit.
For jobs requiring cleaner, drier air, the optional IQ System delivers instrument-quality air for a wide array of specialized applications. And with all Bobcat products, you can count on expert U.S.-based customer service to get you back to work as soon as possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a portable air compressor?
A portable air compressor is a towable, diesel-powered power unit that delivers compressed air to operate handheld pneumatic tools, cable blowing tools, pipeline testing applications, blasting, coating and resurfacing equipment and drilling applications. Bobcat portable air compressors combine rugged reliability with fuel-efficient performance, designed for use in roadwork, construction, mining and utility maintenance.
The Bobcat portable air compressor line-up features:
- Airflow output ranging from 185 to 1,600 cfm for powering a wide range of tools
- Tier 4 diesel engines with long service intervals and low emissions
- Sound-attenuated enclosures and corrosion-resistant exteriors
- Easy-to-use control panels for quick start-up and pressure adjustments
- Standard with towable configurations for smooth transport between jobsites
Common alternative terms include mobile air compressor, towable compressor, or diesel portable air unit.
How do I choose a portable air compressor?
Choosing the right portable air compressor depends on the air volume (CFM) and pressure (PSI) your tools or applications require. Consider the following:
- Airflow requirement (cfm): Match the compressor output to the air consumption of your tools. For example, pavement breakers, sandblasters and directional drills require higher cfm models.
- Pressure rating (psi): Select a model that meets the tool’s operating pressure.
- Work duration: Large fuel tanks and efficient engines extend runtime for all-day use.
- Portability needs: Towable units are ideal for mobile jobsites or rental applications.
- Environmental conditions: Choose a cold-weather package if you work in colder climates, or harsh environments.
Your Bobcat dealer can help you size the correct compressor to match your tools and applications.
What’s the difference between a portable air compressor and other air systems?
Portable air compressors stand apart for their power and mobility:
- Compared to stationary air compressors: Portable units are trailer-mounted and designed for on-site or remote use, while stationary units are fixed in workshops or plants.
- Compared to electric compressors: Diesel-driven portable compressors are ideal for applications where electricity isn’t available.
- Compared to truck-mounted air systems: Portable air compressors free up space in the truck bed, provide higher cfm output utilizing rotary screw compressors, and can serve multiple tools simultaneously.
If your work demands reliable air power across jobsites, a Bobcat portable air compressor offers the best balance of power, flexibility and durability.
How do I operate a portable air compressor?
Operating a Bobcat portable air compressor is straightforward:
Before you start:
- Park the compressor on a firm, level surface and block or chock the wheels.
- Open the enclosure doors. Check engine oil, coolant, compressor oil and fuel levels. Inspect for leaks, loose parts and debris. Ensure all covers and doors are closed.
- Ensure the service air valve is closed before starting.
Starting the Compressor:
- Press the main power button. Wait for the “Wait to Start” message to disappear.
- Press and release the start button. Let the engine crank and start.
- Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature (about 150°F/65°C).
- Press the service air button to begin building air pressure.
- Attach air hoses and ensure whip checks are installed.
- Use the control panel to set the desired discharge pressure.
- Monitor pressure, temperature, and other gauges during operation.
Be sure to reference the operation and maintenance manual for model specific operating instructions.
