HOW TO CHOOSE A TILLAGE ATTACHMENT OR IMPLEMENT

Selecting a Bobcat® tillage attachment or implement depends on two things: your carrier (loader vs. tractor) and the kind of soil work you’re doing (seedbed prep, residue mixing, furrowing or harvesting). Start there, then match the tool to your acreage, soil conditions and the finish you want.

Start With the Job You're Doing

Think about what you need the ground to look like when you’re done:

  • Garden and landscape seedbeds: Prep fine, loose soil for planting.
  • Food plots and small fields: Break up compacted soil and mix in residue.
  • Row work: Cut clean furrows for planting or irrigation.
  • Harvest help: Lift root crops up and out for faster pickup.

When to Choose a Tiller Attachment

Choose the hydraulic loader-mounted tiller when you want maximum control in tight spaces and around obstacles. It’s a strong fit for landscaping, garden prep and bed maintenance – especially when you need to work close to sidewalks, curbs or buildings.

Good choice if you want:

  • Offset mounting for edge-to-edge tilling near structures.
  • Bi-directional rotation for top-cutting or under-cutting.
  • Replaceable double-edge tines for breaking clumps and tough soil.

When to Choose a 3-Point Tiller

Pick the 3-point PTO tiller if you’re working with a compact or utility tractor and want consistent, wide coverage for gardens, food plots and acreage work. With multiple width options and adjustable depth up to 7 inches, it’s built for steady, repeatable soil prep.

Best for:

  • Garden areas and repeated seasonal tillage.
  • Mixing compost, fertilizer and amendments evenly.
  • A smooth finish with less need for extra passes.

When to Choose a Disc Harrow

Go with the disc harrow implement when your goal is to cut, break and mix – especially where there’s crop residue, tougher soil or you’re prepping larger plots. Adjustable gang angles let you dial in how aggressive the cut is, and sealed bearings help keep maintenance low.

Ideal for:

  • Breaking up compacted ground and smoothing seedbeds.
  • Cutting and mixing residue to improve soil health.
  • Small farms, wildlife plots and acreage fields.

When to Choose a Middle Buster

Choose the middle buster when you need clean furrows or want to lift root crops without a lot of complexity. It’s a simple, effective 3-point implement for row planting and harvest work.

Great for:

  • Cutting straight furrows for planting or irrigation runs.
  • Lifting potatoes, onions, carrots and other root crops.
  • Opening compacted ground in targeted rows.

Quick Checklist

  1. Carrier type: loader/Toolcat™ utility work machine vs. compact or utility tractor.
  2. Primary task: fine tilling, residue mixing, furrowing or harvesting.
  3. Soil condition: loose topsoil vs. compacted ground and residue.
  4. Coverage needs: tight areas vs. wider passes for plots/fields.
  5. Depth control: shallow bed prep vs. deeper cutting and mixing.

Once you’ve narrowed it down, your local Bobcat dealer can help confirm hitch/coupler compatibility, PTO/hydraulic requirements and the right size so your tillage setup is ready to work the first day it hits the dirt.
