3 Ways Bobcat Owner Portal Can Save You Money
Posted on August 26, 2019
Read how Machine IQ, Bobcat's telematics system, helps you monitor machine location, health, performance, and security details from any internet‑connected device.
Summary
Imagine reaching into your pocket, pulling out your phone, and seeing exactly where your compact excavator is located. Or receiving an email alert if that excavator is somewhere it’s not supposed to be. This functionality is available for you today - for new equipment and older models- by signing up for the Owner Portal and activating your Machine IQ subscription.
What is Telematics?
Telematics sounds more complicated than it is. For equipment owners, telematics is simply a way for you to have greater visibility and control over your connected equipment.
When we build new Bobcat compact excavators and loaders, they get installed with electronic sensors and onboard systems. These sensors monitor important information about the machine, like service codes, fuel usage, the number of hours the machine has been operated, and the machine’s location.
This information is collected by a small device called the Telematics Control Unit (TCU). The TCU gathers the data from the sensors and sends it over a wireless cellular network. From there, that information is processed and presented in a clear, easy-to-read way so you can see where the machine is located and how it's being used. With telematics, you gain data-driven insights that help protect your equipment and help you make better decisions.

What is Bobcat Machine IQ?
Offered as a standard feature across multiple product lines (including Bobcat Pro compact loaders and skid-steer loaders) and available for older models via aftermarket kit, Machine IQ is a subscription-based service that makes it easy to monitor and manage your connected equipment.
Machine IQ helps you answer the fundamental questions on every operator's mind:
- Where is my machine?
- Does it need my attention?
- How is it performing?
Read on to see how Machine IQ is the solution to these questions, and how it can help protect your investment, maximize productivity, and minimize downtime.
Resources:
1. Increase equipment security
Machine IQ makes protecting your equipment from theft or unauthorized use simple and straightforward. Once logged in, you can confirm your machine’s location using built‑in GPS tracking with location history.
For added protection, you can draw a virtual boundary (geofence) around your yard or jobsite. If your machine crosses that boundary, you'll receive an instant notification via email, the Owner Portal, or the Machine IQ mobile app.
You can also set a curfew within your geofence, and designate when your equipment should be in operation. If someone starts the engine outside that window, you're notified right away.
Machine IQ also includes motion detection, (alerting you if a machine that's powered off or at low idle is physically moved), and if you suspect your machine has been stolen or is being used improperly, you can remotely disable the machine's engine on-demand.
Considering the significant investment you've made in your Bobcat equipment, the Machine IQ subscription offers invaluable peace of mind for a very low cost.
2. Stay on top of proactive equipment maintenance
Let your machines tell you when they’re in need of a tune-up with maintenance monitoring enabled by Machine IQ.
See if your machine is having problems
Machine IQ will also alert you if there's something wrong with your machine, indicated by a critical fault code. By logging into the Owner Portal, you can review the code and use the step-by-step troubleshooting tool to help you resolve the issue.
Know when regular maintenance is due and how to get it done
To keep your Bobcat equipment running strong, we recommend a regular service schedule based on the number of hours of operation on your machine. Log in to the Bobcat Owner Portal to download your machine’s service schedule, or use Machine IQ to view a visual hours tracker that shows when preventive maintenance is due. You and your dealer are alerted when it's time for service, helping keep maintenance on track and reducing downtime.
3. Monitor operator efficiency
Machine IQ also provides key utilization information. Presented as intuitive graphs, you can see at-a-glance your machine’s daily/hourly fuel use as well as its working/idle hours. This information is invaluable to fleet managers who want to reduce idle time, plan fuel usage more strategically, and make smarter decisions about how and where equipment is being used.

Machine IQ also helps your dealer maximize your uptime
The Bobcat telematics system wirelessly transmits your Machine IQ data to your authorized Bobcat dealer. If your machine registers a critical code, your dealer is alerted right away. They can contact you, help diagnose the issue, and, if needed, dispatch a field service technician to your location. This helps minimize downtime and keeps your jobs moving—especially when you’re managing multiple Bobcat machines.
Bobcat Machine IQ provides you remote wireless monitoring from your Bobcat Owner Portal (register today at my.Bobcat.com), and a telematics connection between your Bobcat equipment and Bobcat dealer. Together, these connections create a powerful network of information that can drastically improve your machine uptime.
